In the poignant chapter of my life that began in 2009, I found myself at a crossroads, freshly graduated from high school and returned to the comforting embrace of my parents. Yet, amidst the familiarity of home, an unsettling feeling crept in. For two years, I wandered through days filled with uncertainty, grappling with the big question: What was my purpose?
Everything shifted in 2011 when God called me to the lush, uncharted waters of Vanuatu, specifically to the serene island of Maewo. Accompanied by two friends, we set out to serve as church planters, unaware that this journey would etch an indelible mark on my soul. It was on this island that faith illuminated my path, igniting a profound awareness of its significance in our lives.
My time in Maewo was transformative, marked by a pivotal experience at a Laymen training school on nearby Ambae Island. The training awakened a deep passion within me—the desire to serve God and others, to make a difference. By early 2012, I felt the unmistakable call to action, which led me to the Big Bay area of Santo Island, where the village of Matantas awaited my arrival. The thought of helping my community filled me with excitement; I was ready to roll up my sleeves and invest in the lives of those around me.
In 2013, my journey of service brought me to Fulton College, where I plunged into the study of theology. This opportunity was a result of the unwavering belief that Jane and Brian from Yacht Ministry in Australia had in me. Their support became a beacon of hope, lighting my way as I pursued my dreams diligently. I completed my Bachelor’s degree in 2016, and buoyed by my newfound knowledge, I continued onward, earning a postgraduate diploma in 2017.
Post-graduation, my path led me to serve as an intern minister with the Vanuatu SDA Mission in 2018.
The following years saw me dedicate myself fully to ministry and community service until 2023, all while nurturing a quiet prayer in my heart for further academic growth.
In 2019, serendipity knocked on my door when Pastor Andric Tanghwa introduced me to AIIAS and its online program. Enchanted by the prospects, I enrolled in 2020, even taking out a bank loan to kickstart my studies with two courses. However, a frustrating setback arose as my online payment failed to reach the school's account, forcing me to pause my aspirations. It was a moment of despair, but I resolved to persevere, refusing to let setbacks define my spirit.
Enter 2021, when Pastor Andric's timely insights guided me back to hope. He informed me about the Vanuatu National Provident Fund (VNPF) support loan scheme, a lifeline for students like me. With connections made and applications submitted through Elder Richard Edwin, a member of Pastor Andric's congregation, I felt a flicker of optimism. To my immense relief, my application was accepted, allowing me to resume my online studies early that year.
As life unfolded its plans, my wife received a scholarship from the government to study in Fiji in 2023. Our journey became intertwined as the Vanuatu SDA Mission graciously allowed us to pursue our educational goals together.
However, as my online program stretched longer than expected, I found myself communicating with VNPF about the possibility of completing my studies on the AIIAS campus. God has His ways. The winds of change carried me to AIIAS in May 2024. Armed with God’s unfailing grace, hope, and a family's support, I was ready to complete my education. Now, as I stand at the threshold of graduation on May 25, 2025, I reflect on the winding road that has led me here. It’s a journey woven with God's providence, guiding me through each challenge and ushering me through every opportunity.
Looking back, I understand now that taking risks is less about the fear of loss and more about the wealth of experiences gained. Each sacrifice made along the way serves as an investment—both in time and effort—toward the dreams we dare to chase. My academic journey has imparted invaluable lessons on faith, resilience, and the power of community support.
And as I gaze into the horizon, I am filled with excitement for what lies ahead, knowing that every step has shaped my path and prepared me for the future.
