A Cookbook with a Calling: From The Story Behind the Dish to Mission Meals

When I first began gathering recipes for my book The Story Behind the Dish, I thought it would be a
simple collection of plant-based meals. But as the pages filled, so did my heart, with memories, stories, and
the warmth of shared meals that transformed the cookbook into something far more meaningful.
Each recipe carries more than flavor; it carries a story. From heritage and friendship to faith and mission,
the dishes reflect the multicultural voices of women from the AIIAS community, whose contributions
helped weave together a beautiful tapestry of culture and kindness.
What makes this book truly unique isn’t just its global variety, but the spirit behind it. To me, it’s like
holding a potluck in your hands; ready to spark memories, bring comfort, and foster connection wherever
you go.
Rooted in wellness and inspired by God’s design for health, The Story Behind the Dish became more than
a cookbook. It is a reflection of mission, culture, and community, reminding me, and I hope reminding
others, that the kitchen can be a place where stories and faith are shared, and where God’s love can be
tasted in every dish.
Now, I am building on that vision with my second book, MISSION MEALS: Hearing Voices From the
Field as You Cook. This new project brings together recipes and real-life stories from missionaries and
expats around the world. I hope that as you prepare food in your own kitchen, you’ll not only cook with
purpose but also hear the voices from the mission field, finding encouragement, connection, and strength
for the journey.
